Introduced as an alternative to chocolate in 1912, Wrigley's LifeSavers has evolved from its minty origins to the delectable gummy candies available here today. The classic ring-shaped fruit candies come in cherry, watermelon, green apple, blackberry & strawberry flavors.
LifeSavers are a classic! It was first introduced in 1912 by Clarence Crane, a chocolate manufacturer. He invented Life Savers as a "summer candy," and his goal was to create a candy that can withstand heat better than chocolate. He decided to name his "summer candy" Life Savers because the mints looked like miniature life preservers. Crane sold the rights to Life Savers to Edward John Noble. Noble created tin-foil wrappers to maintain the mint's freshness. Noble founded the Life Savers Company in 1913 and expanded the candy by installing Life Savers displays next to cash registers of restaurants and grocery stores. The five-flavor roll got introduced in 1935.
